In 1903, 23-year-old Alexander Blok married Lyubov Mendeleev, daughter of Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev. The poet had strong feelings for his chosen one, but from the very beginning it was a strange marriage.
Spouses lived together, but, for example, had no intimate life. One might think that two people who were indifferent to sex met, but no: both Alexander and Lyubov had many lovers next to each other.
After a while, Love managed to attract the attention of her husband, but this only brought disappointment to the family.
After some time, a legally open relationship began in the family, which led … to Lyubov’s pregnancy. Of course from someone else. Love gave birth and Alexander adopted the child as his own. Unfortunately, the child died 8 days after birth and the couple moved away from each other again. Everyone went on with their lives. At least sexually.
In fairness, we note that Blok was very supportive of his wife after the loss of a child, so she took care of him during his serious illness.
This union of Blok is called one of the most painful and unhappy, because not a single person in this marriage was comfortable and calm.
