
The Macclesfield-born designer joined the British label in 1997 as a trainee and took over the womenswear department three weeks later. It was Sarah who was put in charge of the company after its founder Alexander McQueen died in 2010 at the age of 40.
Burton created Kate Middleton’s iconic dress for her wedding to Prince William in 2011, an intricate ivory gown with lace embroidery and a long train. Since then, she has become one of the Princess of Wales’ favorite designers, trusted by Sarah to create both luxurious evening looks and everyday outfits.

Kate looked stunning in a bright red Alexander McQueen dress for the official 40th birthday portraits. In June, she repeated the ensemble, paired with a matching hat, at the traditional Royal Ascot races.
The Princess of Wales has twice worn a white asymmetric Grecian-style dress by her favorite brand. She wore it to this year’s BAFTA Awards. Kate wore another elegant dress from Sarah to the Earthshot Prize.

Sarah was also instrumental in turning the brand around and driving it to commercial success. In 2021, Alexander McQueen’s sales amounted to 758 million euros, in 2022 – 830 million. This is a huge increase compared to 2014, when sales were estimated at 220 million.
