“Absolute Lie” stars: why Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen argued decades after the fall of Modern Talking

Thomas and Dieter achieved huge success together with Modern Talking – fans adored not only the duo’s hits, but also the boys’ style. They complemented each other perfectly: the brutal blond Bohlen and the slightly effeminate, exotic Anders.

While the team remained at the top of the charts around the world, the members maintained the myth of their unbreakable friendship. And at first they got along, but fame is a serious test for any human relationship. Due to personal differences, the duo ceased to exist in 1987.

With the collapse of Modern Talking, the musicians cut ties and soon began to speak harshly against each other and even met in court, and Bohlen crossed Anders in his autobiography. And now – a new round of mutual accusations.

Thomas Anders started his own podcast “Modern Talking – Simply Different”. And when asked if Dieter Bohlen actually owns the vocal parts in the duet’s most famous songs, he replied: “Actually, only Dieter Bohlen knows.” And then added: “Well, he never sang in my studio.”

It has already been said that the velvet voice, which can reach very high notes, does not actually belong to Bohlen, but to some unknown singer whom Dieter hired for a fee. And so Thomas sparked this discussion again with his statement.

This in turn brought Dieter Bohlen onto the scene. Because he doesn’t want to, Bohlen of course didn’t stay silent. He recorded and posted a video on his personal account on the social network, where he was not lazy to comment in detail on the words of his former comrade and colleague.

“Thomas Anders mocks Modern Talking fans, says Bohlen. — He says I never sang Modern Talking songs in his studio – that’s true because he didn’t have a studio. We recorded hits in foreign studios and I sang there – unlike Anders. He never sang a single high note. We tried once, but he just couldn’t do it.”

Bohlen also disapproves of his former bandmate impersonating the creator of Modern Talking: “He goes everywhere, climbs on every stage and sings ‘Cherry, Cherry Lady,’ but he can’t do it, he’s not a band.” This is an absolute lie.” Dieter claims that he composed, wrote and produced the songs.

At the end of his video statement, Dieter Bohlen tries to slow down and says that “everything is fine, forget about it”. But it’s clear that nothing is right and it won’t be easy for fans to forget the tussle between yesterday’s idols. And after the exchange of such barbs, the long-standing dispute between the musicians is more likely to flare up than be resolved.
