'Purely English Murder' actor George Armstrong dies of leukemia

George died on July 11th. The actor has been battling cancer for a long time. “I have just heard the very sad news that George Armstrong, aka Alan Humphreys, passed away yesterday. Rest in peace George. A true legend of Grange Hill,” said the artist’s fan club.

Armstrong was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016. The actor underwent treatment and achieved remission. However, the disease returned after two years. It was then that George publicly announced his illness for the first time.

“I relapsed in February and spent most of the last three months in hospital. It’s hard, it’s tiring, but despite the intense fear, I’m still here and I’m continuing to fight,” Armstrong assured.

George was born in London in 1962. He started acting in films in the late 1970s. Armstrong is well known in the UK for his role as schoolboy Alan Humphreys in the BBC series Grange Hill. The project concerned typical teenage problems of high school students. The character of George was a key character and appeared in episodes filmed from 1978 to 1982. In 1989, another significant project appeared in Armstrong’s career – the series “Purely English Murder”. He played the role of Constable Driscoll.

George Armstrong battled leukemia

In recent years, Armstrong worked at Waltham Abbey School. The star actor of the 80s was given the post of technical manager of the theater, according to the Daily Mail.

Today it became known about the death of actress Larisa Marshalová. The star of the series “Kamenskaya” had a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 44. The tragedy happened because Marshalova had a blood clot. Doctors were unable to save her.

Another actor from the series “Kamenskaya” died in the hospital. Nikolai Shatokhin contracted COVID-19.
