Why is Elon Musk laughing at Rimac Nevera’s bizarre 0-100 sprint?

Last week it was revealed that the Rimac Nevera set no fewer than 23 different records in one day, including the fastest sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. Tesla boss Elon Musk finds the records rather ridiculous.

The Rimac Nevera is a Croatian hypercar with 1940 hp and 2360 Nm of torque. The whimsical vehicle has four electric motors, making it one of the fastest cars in the world.

Elon Musk laughs at Rimac Nevera’s sprint times

While many are impressed with the Rimac Nevera’s performance, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not impressed. On Twitter he responds in zero-to-hundred time with the words “LOL” (Laughing out Loud).

It’s unclear exactly what Elon Musk means with his answer. Could the Tesla Roadster be much faster than the Rimac Nevera? Elon Musk isn’t the only one laughing at other manufacturers’ models. The Tesla boss himself, for example, was laughed at last year by Mike Levine, Ford’s PR director. He said of the Roadster: “That thing doesn’t exist!”

Tesla Roadster not in production, Rimac Nevera is!

And that’s true. Unlike the Rimac Nevera, the new Tesla Roadster hasn’t been seen in person yet. But when he gets there, he’ll be mincing the Rimac Nevera. At least if we can count on the cheapest promises for Tesla.

Elon Musk previously promised that the Roadster would launch with a special SpaceX feature. With this package, the Tesla Roadster would be able to accelerate from standstill to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 1.1 seconds. This was later adjusted to 1.9 seconds. That would mean the Tesla is slower than the Rimac: “LOL”.

Although Elon Musk may laugh at the sprint times, Rimac has an extreme electric hypercar that’s simply for sale. And Tesla hasn’t been able to keep up!
