Are appearances deceptive? This square car is a ‘serious’ Scottish off-roader

You’ve probably never heard of the Munro brand. This is a Scottish start-up that only showed its first vehicle last December. This time it’s time for the second one: the Munro MK_1 pickup.

Although the design might look a little like a Chinese AliExpress version of a Jeep Wrangler mixed in with some Defender and F-150, the SUV is simply built in Scotland. The company says it has already received more than 200 orders for the MK_1 pick-up and truck.

Electric off-roader

The construction of these ordered off-roaders is expected to take about 1.5 years. Luckily for the small manufacturer, its off-roader isn’t overly complicated. Simple, robust and extremely powerful. That’s how Munro describes their cars themselves. They’re made for hard work!

The top model can pull 3,500 kilograms with brakes and transport up to 1,050 kilograms in the loading box. If the off-roader is fully loaded, the range is logically reduced.

And the range is important in this case, since it is a pure electric car. There is an 82.4 kWh (gross) battery in the floor, with which you can drive 306 kilometers in the best case. According to Munro, the off-roader can be used off-road for up to 16 hours. The battery can be charged with a maximum of 100 kW. That means from 15 to 80 percent in 36 minutes.

The battery of the off-roader is coupled with a 375 hp electric motor, which offers a torque of 700 Nm in the performance version. There is also a version with 295 hp. The “Range” has the larger battery and – strangely enough – according to the information, comes just as far as the more powerful Performance. The cheapest variant “Utility” has a 61.2 kWh (gross) battery, with which you can drive 227 kilometers at best.

Munro does not yet have a pre-production model

The off-roader costs around 50,000 pounds (57,581 euros) in England. It is still unclear whether the brand will also come to the Netherlands. Build a pre-production model first, because Munro doesn’t even have that yet!
