Leaked! The electric BMW i5 looks… um… pretty standard

No weird design frills from BMW this time, because the German brand is not crazy. The 5 Series is still the king of the BMW family, so things shouldn’t get too controversial, even with this electric BMW i5.
Is BMW mad that the i5 can be seen on Instagram prematurely? Not at all! This type of “leak” suits the manufacturer well. Does the marketing and PR department advertise twice instead of once? Because very soon the BMW i5 will really be unveiled.
The BMW i5 is already on the market as a station wagon
The eighth generation of the BMW 5 Series will be available in mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants. A photo of the latter has now been leaked. This is the limousine. There will also be an i5 Touring.

The latter will not debut until 2024 and is of course mainly intended for Europe. Hardly anyone buys a station wagon in North America and Asia. They are often not even delivered.
No “double headlights” like the 7 Series and the X7
Judging by the leaked image of the i5, the appearance has become unexciting. In fact, it’s quite clean, with few markings on its flanks. The headlight units are also reserved and not halved as in the new 7 Series and the revised X7.
The grille is perhaps the most extravagant part of the BMW i5. As with the i7, the kidneys are illuminated with a surrounding LED border. A typical design element that is well received in China.
If we look at the large cooling holes in the front bumper of this i5, we are dealing with an M Performance model. Or at least a version adorned with M goodies.
The silhouette of the BMW i5 looks quite stretched and is a bit reminiscent of the 8 Series Gran Coupé. We now know the recessed door handles from other BMW models.
