Dive into the price list: Lexus RZ 450e, a formidable BMW iX3 competitor?

The new Lexus RZ has found its way into showrooms. Now to the customers. With a look at the price list, let’s take a look at what the BMW iX3 competitor has to offer.

With the Lexus UX 300e (Electric), the Japanese luxury brand has been delivering a fully electric model since 2020. However, this is an electric car based on one with a petrol engine. Partly because of this, the specs themselves were okay, but not impressive. So it’s high time for a Lexus that was developed as an electric vehicle from the start. Now it’s here, in the form of the Lexus RZ 450e.

So let’s start with these specs. Thanks to a 75 kWh battery (71.4 kWh usable) and an average power consumption of 18.1 kWh/100 km (WLTP), the Lexus RZ 450e achieves exactly 400 km (also WLTP). Added to this is an output of 230 kW (313 hp) and a torque of 435 Nm. Lexus isn’t in the drag race among EV manufacturers, but a 0-100 time of 5.6 seconds is still very fast. Top speed is limited to a modest 160 km/h.

As for the powertrain, the Lexus RZ only offers the 450e for now. There are four equipment variants to choose from. The Comfort Line is available from 67,495 euros. Lexus charges at least 79,495 euros for the top model President Line. The Executive Line and the Luxury Line are even in between.

Standard equipment Lexus RZ

Significant volumes, but Lexus has never been a cheap brand. You get a lot in return for the cent. An excerpt from the standard equipment: 18-inch alloy wheels, fabric upholstery, heated front seats, leather steering wheel, wireless phone charger, 14-inch touchscreen for infotainment (with voice control) and an extensive package of safety and assistance systems.

Imitation leather upholstery can be found from the Executive Line onwards, as well as electrically adjustable front seats, steering wheel heating and sound-insulating windows. The Luxury Line extends this with 20-inch alloys, a power tailgate, front seat ventilation and a head-up display. The President Line really goes the whole hog, with ultra-suede upholstery, heated rear seats, infrared heaters in the front, Mark Levinson audio, extensive parking assistance, and additional exterior features in either gloss or body color. A 220V/150W connection is also standard.

We opt for the Executive Line. It already offers more than enough luxury and precisely because of the slightly smaller wheel size, we also find it a bit nicer than the higher trim levels. The standard body color is white. As an option at no extra cost you can choose between black, dark grey, light gray and grey-blue. There is a surcharge of 595 euros for the characteristic presentation color copper. If you want the roof, bonnet and front end in contrasting black, you’ll pay 995 euros more in combination with dark gray or blue, or 1,495 euros in combination with copper. We rely on gray-blue without contrasting black. There are no other wheel options.

Interior Lexus RZ

That brings us to the interior, which comes standard in the brown color “Hazel”. Light gray in combination with the same grey-blue as the body paintwork or an all-black interior are available at no extra cost. The brown is not to our liking, but black is very black. So let’s do grey-blue again.

Packages and individual options

You largely determine which options you have on board by choosing the level of equipment. Because the option list is limited. Actually, you can only opt for a panoramic roof (1,695 euros) and the premium package (1,295 euros). The first speaks for itself, the second includes an electrically adjustable steering column, an entry and exit function for the steering wheel and still the 20-inch wheels that actually belong to the higher trim levels. We don’t check any of that.

Only a few small options and accessories remain. The tire pressure sensors (278 euros) can be quite useful, we check them. The luxury floor mats are also included (341 euros, the cheaper version costs 116 euros). However, we are convinced of the transport and luggage systems, as well as the many protective films that can be attached separately.
