Definitive! Seat will cease to be a traditional car brand in 2030

We reported it a few days ago: Seat would continue to sell cars until 2030 and then become a mobility brand. Back then it was a rumor, now it has been confirmed by the manufacturer itself.

In a press release, the company reports that the Seat Ibiza, Arona and Leon models will be renewed to continue delivering fuel-efficient cars and plug-in hybrids “until the end of this decade”. It is unknown what will happen to the Ateca and the Tarraco.

Seat focuses on other forms of mobility

Seat will stop selling cars after 2030 and will focus on “new forms of mobility for young people such as carsharing, subscriptions and micro-mobility”.

The brand already has experience with this. Apparently one of the most popular sharing services in Barcelona, ​​Seat Mó has sold 10,000 electric motorcycles in 15 markets in the last two years.

The omens had been there much longer

It has long been known that Seat as a car brand has no future. Not officially, of course, but the signs were there: the fact that all the attention is on Cupra and that Seat won’t be getting electric cars while the other Volkswagen brands will.

We can imagine that traders are not happy with this news. Although Cupra is growing rapidly (300,000 cars sold since 2018), it is still a long way from reaching the parent company’s figures.

Seat builds electric vehicles for Cupra, Skoda and VW

Incidentally, the brand will continue to build cars, but for Cupra, Skoda and Volkswagen. The Seat plant in Martorell is used for the production of the compact, electric Cupra Raval (formerly Urban Rebel) and the VW ID.2. We don’t know what the Skoda will be called yet.
