An Alpina version of the Toyota Supra? Yes, please!

The fifth generation Toyota Supra caused quite a stir when it was introduced in 2019. After all, the engine comes from BMW. We’re excited to see what kind of gale force this Alpina version of the GR Supra will cause.

Opinions about the fifth generation Toyota Supra are divided. One thinks it’s great that the Japanese were able to build a new Supra together with the Germans, the other thinks it’s nothing more than a BMW in a Toyota costume. But if it has to be the latter, then we’re only too excited for the arrival of this Alpina version of the Supra.

Is the Alpina version of the Toyota Supra really coming?

Whose lower jaw is now on the ground, we will immediately bring out of his madness: This is obviously not an official press photo of Alpina, Toyota or anyone else. The Alpina version of the Toyota Supra is an idea by designer Abimelec Arellano, who recently shared this creation with his more than 72,000 Instagram followers.

This Alpina Supra is not that far-fetched. As its own car brand, Alpina takes existing BMW models seriously. The Toyota Supra has a BMW B58 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine under the hood. This block can be found in the BMW M340i and – yes – in the Z4 M40i. Should Alpina ever really get involved with a Toyota Supra, the brand would probably replace the B58 with an S58. This engine drives the BMW M3, M4 and Alpina B3, among others.

Loved by tuners

It was the fourth generation of Toyota Supra that gained notoriety in the United States Fast & Furiousfilm series. At the front of this Japanese sports car sits Toyota’s well-known 2JZ engine. This can withstand a lot and is therefore extremely popular with tuners. So an Alpina sauce would go well with the Toyota Supra.

Although the fifth Supra generation is powered by a German straight-six, this model is also regularly used as a project car. Incidentally, there is not always room for BMW’s six-cylinder engines. For example, there are people who long for the past and have hung a 2JZ in the modern Supra. YouTuber and formula drift driver Adam LZ took a different approach and installed a rotary engine in his Toyota GR Supra.
