These magnificent Mercedes buses prove that rich Chinese have no taste

Why does the new BMW 7 Series have such a large, illuminated kidney? Because the preferences of European buyers are no longer leading. Rich Chinese want to attract attention and BMW and Mercedes know that too. Just look at these V-Classes…
At the Shanghai Motor Show almost an entire hall was filled with Mercedes V-Classes. No series models, but striking copies of various tuners.
Mercedes V class very popular in China
And not only that. Even the official stand of Fujian Benz – a joint venture between Fujian Motor and Mercedes-Benz – was filled with gleaming chrome buses.

Why? Because the Mercedes V-Class is extremely popular with the rich in China. Chinese car buyers value space, which is why so many long-wheelbase cars are being sold, such as the BMW 3 Series L, Peugeot 508 L and Volkswagen Tiguan L.

And do not think that the V class sold in China is the same as the European passenger bus. Here the V is mainly used as a glorified taxi van. In China, the interior is much more luxurious, with lounge chairs instead of sofas.
Tuned copies with lots of chrome and leather
The superlatives are these tuned specimens. Nothing changes mechanically, only the appearance is beefed up with large shiny grilles and chrome details on each panel.

Open the sliding doors and you’re greeted by kitschy LED lighting, drapes, lots of leather, and the most comfortable chairs you’ve ever seen.

These V-classes are therefore not intended to be driven yourself, but rather to be driven by a driver wearing a cap and gloves. Whistle champagne from the on-board fridge, grab the newspaper and off to the next meeting or Gucci store.

A contrast to the Netherlands, where you can buy an expensive car but in black or gray so as not to attract too much attention. Wealthy Chinese want to show how much money they have. Just act normal then you act crazy enough? No way!
