Electric car owners, do not use these lethal charging cables!

Some drive an electric car because they think it’s better for the environment, others just like the quiet and smooth powertrain. However, the vast majority drive electrically because it is financially attractive. But as an EV driver, you don’t have to skimp on everything. For example, avoid these life-threatening charging cables.

The British Electrical Safety First, an institution that aims to prevent accidents caused by electricity as much as possible, has carried out research into various charging cables. The result is “shocking”.

Avoid these life-threatening charging cables

The cheap electric car charging cables were sold on eBay and Amazon and proved to be life-threatening. At least three of the cables examined overheated and caused electric shocks.

Charging cable, electric car, danger to life

Lesley Rudd, CEO of Electrical Safety First, said: “Charging your car should never be a risk. The cables we found on online marketplaces risk making this everyday task a potential hazard.”

The institution therefore advises owners of electric cars not to buy (cheap) cables for charging electric vehicles from parties other than well-known manufacturers. After all, the cables are life-threatening.

Lethal charging cables for electric cars off the market

The charging cable sold on eBay has now been taken off the market and Amazon has also taken the products off the site.

Cheap is expensive

The big problem with the cheap charging cables, which are often made in China, is the number of amps the cables can handle. Some of the cheap cables are designed for a maximum of 13 amps, while in the Netherlands a maximum of 16 amps come out of the socket. If you use the wrong cable, it can overheat and catch fire. So life-threatening!
