The Volvo CX90 has become an important model for the brand. Now it’s time for redemption in the form of the Volvo EX90. We dive into the price list and see what the model has to offer.
In 2002, Volvo entered the SUV segment with the XC90. The car quickly established itself as “the likeable SUV” and can be described as a real success. The model also preferably remained in production until 2014 (outside Europe until 2016). The second generation, launched in 2015, picked up where the first left off but placed more emphasis on luxury. Thanks to a plug-in hybrid version, the model was also attractive from a tax point of view in Germany for a long time. Now it’s time for the next chapter. The XC90 is replaced by the Volvo EX90. As the name suggests, it takes the next step in electrification (and luxury).
Volvo EX90 always electric
The Volvo EX90 will always be fully electric. The name change underscores this. In terms of design, the EX90 is clearly a direct successor to the XC90, because it’s all about a design evolution. A special detail is the introduction of folding headlights, but not as usual.

Although the Volvo EX90 was introduced at the end of 2022, it will still be a while before the model is available. The first copies are not expected before 2024. At the time of going to press, the configurator indicated a delivery time of no less than 16 to 18 months. That doesn’t mean that buyers are waiting quietly: the first model year sold out quickly. If you order a Volvo EX90 now, you are doing so for the 2025 model year. So that is also the model year we are talking about here.
Prices Volvo EX90
The Volvo XC90 is no longer a cheap car, and the new EX90 certainly isn’t. After all, the focus is more than ever on luxury, although cheaper variants may also appear in the long term. In any case, they continue to expand upwards, with the Excellence version, which should make it difficult for cars like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
For the time being, the Volvo EX90 is only available as a seven-seater in the Ultra version with pretty much everything on it. The price list starts at a solid 99,195 euros. Those who want the performance version have lost at least 104,195 euros. You can also subscribe to the Volvo EX90 through Care by Volvo. That costs a sweet sum of at least 1,489 euros per month…
Specifications Volvo EX90
“Standard with all the trimmings” also applies to the drive train. Two electric motors with a system output of 300 kW (408 hp) come as standard. The torque is 770 Nm and all together you sprint to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. If that’s not enough, choose the EX90 Performance. It offers a system output of 380 kW (517 hp) and a whopping 910 Nm of torque. The 100 km/h is reached in 4.9 seconds. As with all Volvo models today, the top speed is always limited to 180 km/h.
Regardless of the version, the Volvo EX90 is equipped with a 111 kWh battery pack (107 kWh usable). Together with an average power consumption of 20.9 to 21.1 kWh/100 km, this results in an impressive range of 580 to 585 km (WLTP), depending on whether you take the standard or the performance version. For a full charge with 11 kW you need 11 hours of patience with such a large battery. Luckily, the EX90 can also be quickly charged if you don’t have that time.
Equipment Volvo EX90
Standard as a luxury ultra. It goes without saying that it is impossible to list the complete standard equipment of the Volvo EX90 here. You can really only expect everything that Volvo currently has in stock. A special technology is the SunLike LED lighting, interior lighting with a very natural lighting effect. Also worth mentioning is lidar technology, which should (in due course) enable highly automated driving. Hence the ‘Taix sign’ above the windshield. In any case, the assistance and safety systems are good. According to Volvo, the EX90 is the safest Volvo ever made, although for such a top-of-the-line model it would be odd if it weren’t.

Let’s put together a copy. In terms of equipment, there is no choice (yet). In the next step we decide on the “standard” twin engine. After all, the performance hardly offers any advantages in daily practice. Then we come to the body colors. Solid gray is standard. Any other color costs 1,295 euros (or 20 euros per month) extra. The good news is that Volvo is bringing some color to the range for the 2025 model year. In addition to the usual shades of grey, white and black, there is also a choice of light beige, dark grey-blue and dark wine red. In this case we find that the standard color suits the car best.

The standard 21-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels can be exchanged for 22-inch rims with a different aerodynamic design for 970 euros (or remarkably again 20 euros per month). We’ll stick with the default option anyway.

Interior trim Volvo EX90
You get black Microtech upholstery with gray interior accents as standard. As an option at no extra cost, you can choose between very light grey-brown (in combination with black and dark gray parts) or very light gray upholstery (in combination with dark gray parts). Wonderfully soft wool upholstery in various shades of gray with a bit of white and black is also available for an additional charge of EUR 1,210 (or EUR 20 a month). We opt for the light grey-brown upholstery.

Packages and options Volvo EX90
Finally, the packages and separate options for the Volvo EX90. The climate package (595 euros, or +10 euros per month) appeals to us. Then the windshield washer systems are heated as well as the steering wheel and the outer seats of the rear bench. The Pilot Assist Pack (2,495 euros or +35 euros per month) with automatic parking and almost independent driving on the motorway is not necessary with us.
The separate options are all-season tires (340 euros / + 10 euros per month), winter wheel sets (3,400-4,700 euros / + 40 euros per month), active air suspension (2,705 euros / + 50 euros per month), integrated rear seat booster (315 euros / no influence on the monthly price), Bowers & Wilkins HiFi audio system (3,095 euros / + 40 euros per month), extra tinted rear glass (515 euros / + 5 euros per month) and an automatically retractable trailer hitch (1,295 euros / +20 euros per month). We select only the audio system.
