The renewed Porsche Cayenne gets more cylinders

Porsche has given the third generation of the Cayenne a facelift. With such refreshes, the Germans often only refine the design in fragments. At first glance, the lines of the new SUV appear almost untouched, but the Cayenne has some interesting changes.

“Porsche doesn’t start reduction In the case of the Cayenne S’, it sounded with some pride during a brief presentation to journalists. The 2.9-liter V6 in the S variant of the popular Porsche SUV is replaced by a 4.0-liter V8. With the help of two turbos, the eight-cylinder delivers 474 hp and 600 Nm of torque. That’s 34 hp and 50 Nm more than the predecessor.

Electric Porsche Cayenne on the road

The standard Cayenne retains its six-cylinder engine and also gains 50 Nm. As the least powerful variant, this Cayenne now has 353 hp, 13 more than before. As the ultimate powerhouse, the Turbo GT remains the most powerful Cayenne with 659 hp – see a driving test with the pre-facelift model here.

The E-Hybrid – the most attractive choice for the Dutch market from a tax point of view – now also has greater combined power, albeit just 8 hp. Incidentally, the 40 hp electric motor in the E-Hybrid is primarily responsible for the power. With its larger 25.9 kWh battery, Porsche even states an all-electric range of 90 kilometers. Is not this enough? Then you have to be patient. An all-electric Cayenne is expected to hit the market around 2025.

Porsche Cayenne has received a makeover à la Taycan

Not only has a lot happened under the hood, the interior has also been updated overpower receive. For example, the Cayenne now has curved, digital instruments like those we know from the Porsche Taycan. A premiere in the Cayenne is the passenger screen, which was also adopted from the Porsche electric vehicle. Not only can live driving information be viewed on this, but films and series can also be streamed.

A special film ensures that the screen is only visible from the passenger seat, preventing the driver from glancing at this entertainment screen. We have tested this and can say that it works very well. From the driver’s seat, the screen looks extremely dark, while the passenger in the Porsche Cayenne sees a clear picture.

Sturdy appearance

Of course, the exterior also has a few (minor) changes. The hood is a bit more robust and the louvers in the front bumper are more pronounced. Eight new wheel designs are also available for the facelift version of the Porsche Cayenne. From now on, these do not start at 19 inches, but at 20 inches and are also optionally available in 21 inches and even 22 inches.

If you look closely you’ll notice that something has changed in the light units. The continuous rear light is no longer under a pane of glass, but is three-dimensional. Angular matrix headlights are now standard, which can even be optionally replaced by so-called HD matrix headlights.
