Test report Fiat 500E Cabrio La Prima by Bocelli: The ultimate lifestyle car?

The Fiat 500 is perhaps the most famous small city car. This time we drove the 500E convertible “La Prima by Bocelli”, a special version of the 500. How great is the Fiat 500E convertible “La Prima by Bocelli”?

In 2007, Fiat released a modern reinterpretation of the 500. The electric version of the 500 was launched in 2020 and has a range of around 320 kilometers on a single charge. There’s even an Abarth version of it.

1. What are we talking about?

We already knew the electric Fiat 500 Cabrio, which proved itself as a car “for the side”. An accessory that beautifully embellishes long driveways. With the Bocelli version of the top-of-the-range La Prima, Fiat is attempting to cater even more to the lifestyle side of the car market.

2. Bocelli, who is that again?

Andrea Bocelli is a well-known (blind) Italian singer and music producer. He may be known to younger audiences from the song Perfect Symphony, which he made with pop star Ed Sheeran in 2017. The collaboration with Fiat is reflected in an audio system from JBL that the Italian musician helped develop.

It’s a great sound system for this type of car, but don’t expect too much from it. The audio settings require some play, but the audio prompts when the car starts and stops sound remarkably creaky and cheap. The convertible roof creates a constant wind noise in the background. This is normal for a car with a dust roof and is even minimal here, but it does not detract from the sound experience.

3. Beautiful convertible, the Fiat 500E?

The slight noise cannot spoil the fun on the open roof. The electric dust cover has two open positions. In the first position, the roof retracts to the rear row of seats. The flypaper at the front largely escorts the wind over the open roof. Ideal for driving with the roof down in cooler weather.

If the mercury continues to rise, the second position offers a solution. The dust cover follows the roof line at the rear and folds away together with the rear window. Rear visibility is then reduced, but a light breeze quickly cools the sun-drenched interior. The seat heating keeps you warm at all times.

4. Fiat 500E Cabrio ‘La Prima’ by Bocelli, iTrade a lifestyle car?

This makes it an ideal lifestyle car indeed. With the extra large 17 inch wheels, special upholstery and chrome elements, you can stroll through the city endlessly. At least until the specified WLTP range of 302 kilometers is reached. In practice, especially outside of town, you won’t get that range.
