Dutch Lightyear is bankrupt and of course bankruptcy involves an auction selling everything from a company of some value. In this case, it’s not just about used computers and parts. No, there are even (unfinished) solar cars to buy!
It was a while before Lightyear was declared completely bankrupt. The company from Helmond still believed in a new start. However, this was no longer possible.
Latest solar cars from Lightyear
The only model built by Lightyear is named “0”. The solar car had a price of 250,000 euros. This model is now up for auction. (Thanks to an attentive Autovisie reader for the tip)

At the auction you can bid on eleven cars, three of which look like finished production models. However, at least two of these three models are concept cars. The other Lightyears were used for testing, are not yet fully completed or had to pass a crash test.

How many copies of the Lightyear 0 were built exactly is unclear. That it is a unique car – and will also be in the future – is certain.
The Dutch car is therefore more special not only because of its technology, but more because it is “a light year”. The solar car has a 60kWh battery pack that is dripped into the solar panels or you can just plug it in. Fast charging is possible up to 50 kW.

With a full battery pack, you can travel 625 kilometers according to WLTP. This is partly due to the very aerodynamic shape of the car (Cd value 0.20). The economical 177 hp electric motor also contributes to this.
The auction of Dutch solar cars
The company’s last Dutch solar cars, car parts and other products will be auctioned on April 24. Would someone pay 2.5 tons new for the Lightyear 0 at auction?
