“Mini” makes the biggest model even bigger, that’s the new Countryman

Mini releases images and specs of the new Countryman. The model is only available with an electric drive and is built at the BMW plant in Leipzig. The EV is now even bigger than its predecessor.

The new Mini shares the platform with the BMW iX1, which comes off the assembly line at the same plant. Still, the Anglo-German EV has to steer differently than the electric X1. The brand relies on the “go-kart feeling”.

Bigger and fully electric

The new Mini Countryman is initially available with a 140 kW (191 hp) electric motor on the front axle. An all-wheel drive with an electric motor on the front and rear axles is also to come onto the market later. Together, these electric motors deliver 230 kW (313 hp). You can only catch up to this maximum power overloaded. There are constantly 270 hp available.

No matter which version you choose. The Countryman always has a battery pack with a net capacity of 64.7 kWh. According to estimates, you will be about 450 kilometers away. The new Countryman is 13 centimeters longer and 5.6 centimeters higher than its predecessor. The wheelbase has remained the same.

As with the BMW iX1, the battery pack can be charged with 130 kW. While this isn’t very fast, BMW promises that the charge curve is very flat. This allows you to quickly reach the maximum charging speed and it does not decrease extremely when the battery is almost full.

Mini Countryman JCW

The price of the new Mini Countryman is still unclear. We also don’t know yet if John Cooper Works will violate the EV. The previous generation of Countryman JCW delivered 231 hp and that’s enough to make Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen laugh on the streets of the Monte Carlo Rally. You can see how this most expensive Countryman fares in the following video.
