Volkswagen ID.7: Is this the electric alternative to the Passat?
Volkswagen no longer brings the new Passat as a sedan. However, this does not mean that the brand forgets about this body style. The Volkswagen ID.7 will be launched as a sedan.
The ID.7 can be seen as an electric alternative to the Passat, although the EV is much longer. With a length of almost 5 meters and a wheelbase of almost 3 meters, the model is significantly larger than the Passat and the competition, namely Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
Volkswagen ID.7
Although the Volkswagen ID.7 is less streamlined than the competition, depending on the battery pack, the battery can be charged for 615 or 700 kilometers according to WLTP: 77 kWh or 86 kWh net capacity.

Charging is possible via a 400-volt vehicle electrical system with a maximum of 170 kW for the entry-level vehicle. The – for the time being – most expensive variant charges with a maximum of 200 kW.
Now a rear-wheel drive
Whichever powertrain you choose, you always get a 286 hp and 545 Nm electric motor on the rear axle. You can see in the video whether that’s enough for the comfort-oriented sedan or whether you should wait for a possible GTX variant with all-wheel drive and more power.
Electric alternative to the Volkswagen Passat?
Volkswagen will build the ID.7 in Emden, Germany, from June. The manufacturer expects to deliver the first cars in autumn 2023. The station wagon will be presented about a year after the sedan seen in the video.
Volkswagen has not yet confirmed a price, but is trying to get the entry-level price just under 60 grand in Germany. In the Netherlands we soon have to add a few thousand euros. You might be wondering if you can really call it an electric Passat with that price tag. After all, this model has been around for around 47 mille.
