Why Tesla is suddenly “rudderless”.

Tesla supplies a yoke steering wheel as standard with the Model S and X. Although it seems like a nice option, in practice this turns out to be different. Not just for the driver, but for Tesla itself. The company is now “rudderless.”

Tesla and steering wheels don’t go well together anyway. For example, a steering wheel used to come loose. Also, the new yoke just produces a lot of clumsiness. If you’re driving on the freeway, an airplane steering wheel is fine. However, if you need to stop to make a sharp turn, you can’t with a yoke.

Nevertheless, many buyers of a Model X or S have opted for a yoke. And now they regret it. There are now so many requests from Tesla for a normal steering wheel that the manufacturer is “rudderless”. The manufacturer does not yet know when the normal steering wheel will be back in stock, reports AutoEvolution.

Replacing the yoke costs 900 euros at Tesla including installation costs, and the replacement is worth the money for many buyers. The steering wheel is simply not suitable for quick manoeuvres. Whichever steering wheel you choose, the direction indicators are located on both steering wheels on the left side of the user interface. Blinkers behind the steering wheel are missing.

A much better steering wheel

As an EV owner with a yoke, you don’t have to buy a new steering wheel from Tesla. You can also shop at the convenience store. For example, the T Sportline company makes a cool yoke steering wheel that’s round. However, the price is high, at least 2 grand.

Lexus does what Tesla can’t

Although the yoke steering wheel doesn’t work well on Tesla, there are manufacturers that do. In the video below, Jaco Bijlsma takes you with him in the Lexus RZ 450e. He tells you all about the special steering wheel and the EV.
