This new Kia EV9 can download pulling power

This is the new Kia EV9. Although you could see the design earlier, the specifications have now also been announced. One of the most striking features: you can download traction.

You’ve probably heard it before: a subscription for heated seats or a subscription to accelerate faster. Many manufacturers are working on such designs. Kia can also activate a boost function with 100 Nm additional torque for the electric SUV.

The new Kia EV9 can download pulling power

You can find all sorts of things about this, but of course this has been happening for some time. Fuel engines from some manufacturers are also limited in performance by software. For example in the less powerful versions of the BMW 1 Series. Paying more for a more powerful version is sometimes just a difference in ones and zeros.

The upgrade is only available on the Kia AWD model. This version is equipped with two electric motors that together deliver 283 kW (385 hp) and 600 Nm. As a result, the EV9 sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6 seconds (5.3 with downloadable boost function).

In addition to all-wheel drive, there will also be rear-wheel drive with an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 350 Nm. This model sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.4 seconds.

Whichever version of the Kia EV9 you choose, there is always a large 99.8 kWh battery pack in the bottom. That brings the RWD (with 19-inch wheels) 541 kilometers according to WLTP. The range of the top model is still unclear. With an 800-volt electrical system, 239 kilometers can be recharged in around 15 minutes.

Relatively good CW value

The weight of the Kia EV9 is not yet known. You can see immediately that it is not a lightweight. The car is over 5 meters long, almost 2 meters wide and 1.76 meters high. The wheelbase is 3.1 meters. Despite the large external dimensions, the drag coefficient is “only” 0.28. In comparison, a much smaller Audi e-Tron Q4 has the same drag coefficient.

Inside the gigantic electric SUV there is room for six or seven seats. If you opt for six seats and the GT-Line, the seats in the second row can be rotated. The design of the steering wheel and dashboard is minimalist and very similar to what we already know from the Kia EV6. What is striking is that the version shown has no mirrors. You will find screens on the inside of the front doors.

Kia hasn’t announced anything about pricing or the launch of the EV9 on the Dutch market yet. It is said that this model is not a replacement for the Sorento, this model will remain in production.
