After the Smart #1 comes the Smart… #3? The automaker skips number two and comes straight to the Smart #3. The model will be revealed shortly, but already comes with a sneak preview.
With the Smart #1, which colleague Peter Hilhorst previously drove, the manufacturer has already made it clear that it is taking a different approach. The ultra compact car is a thing of the past. Since the Chinese carmaker Geely came on board, a breath of fresh air has been blowing through the German headquarters.
The Smart #3
In the #1 you will find all-electric technology from China. This first Smart since renaming is also the brand’s first-ever SUV. On this basis, the manufacturer continues with the #3. This model gets an electric powertrain again and if we look at the sketches of the brand new car we see a tall body shape again.

Consumers only want crossovers and SUVs. Just ask Renault, the brand has broken with its past. The sixth generation of the Espace released today is no longer an MPV, but an SUV. Less prominent, just like the new Smart models.
Perpendicular parking with a unique looking car is no longer possible with the brand’s current models. The Smart #3 will be an addition to the Smart #1 and – based on these sketches – a coupe variant of the “first” model.
disclosure
The press release accompanying these drawings reveals that the taillights will not only run the full width of the rear, but will also include pixelated elements, as we have already seen on the new generation Hyundai Kona.
The carmaker does not want to reveal much more at this point in time. For that we will have to wait until April 18 of this year. Then the curtain falls on the brand new Smart #3 at the auto show in Shanghai.
