Will Genesis beat Tesla in Europe with a new electric car?

Genesis wants to expand into the European market. Although there are enough cars of the brand on the road in Asia and America, you see very few of them in Europe. A new electric car should change that, even beating Tesla’s forthcoming low-cost EV.
Genesis is already on sale in Europe, but not yet in the Netherlands. The luxury brand Hyundai wants to focus more on our market. “We plan to expand our model range and a smaller model is being considered, particularly in Europe,” Mark Choi, head of product planning, told Autocar.
Genesis Mint as a competitor to Tesla
The cheap electric car has to compete with the upcoming Tesla. While it’s still unclear what the EV will look like, the model is expected to resemble the 2019 Genesis Mint.

A small electric car for the city, even if it seems a bit unreal that the special gullwing doors will ultimately still be seen on an electric car. The model is still typically a concept car.

It’s still a long way from a production model from Tesla’s competitor, but the plans are definitely there. Design chief of Korean brand SangYup Lee told the British medium: “The Genesis Mint concept is still under investigation. We want to see if a small luxury car is interesting. If you live in a city, you don’t necessarily want a big car, so consider a small luxury car. There are premium small cars, but a luxury small car can be something new.”
Waiting for cheaper raw materials for the electric car
Nevertheless, some difficulties still arise. “Battery raw material prices are crucial at the moment,” says the head of product planning at Genesis, who is considering waiting with a small city car for Europe until material costs have come down. Will the Koreans be able to hold their own against Tesla and other Chinese, German and American manufacturers?
