There are still no really cheap electric cars with a starting price of less than 20,000 euros. Only Dacia could ever turn to such an offer, as the Spring was initially available for less than that amount. Volkswagen will also get involved in the low-cost electric A segment.
Yesterday it became clear that Volkswagen is working flat out to bring an affordable electric model onto the market, as it presented the ID. 2all, an electric car for – as the name suggests – everyone. The car, which will come onto the market in 2025 and will probably only bear the name ID.2, costs around 25,000 euros. Quite a lot for a spacious B-segmenter that has to cover 450 kilometers on one charge of electricity. But Volkswagen doesn’t accept that.
Price Volkswagen ID.1
In the same presentation, the brand announced that it would also develop an affordable A-Segmenter. This will also be a fully electric model, which will almost certainly be called ID.1. This is the entry-level model in the ID. series with an entry-level price of less than 20,000 euros. So see it as a replacement for the e-Up!.

When exactly this model will appear is not yet clear. Volkswagen has already announced that it will launch 10 new electric vehicles by 2026. We already know some of them, such as the ID.7, the extended version of the ID. Buzz, the updated ID.3 and of course the ID.2 presented yesterday. As an electric alternative to the current T-Cross, a crossover variant of the latter model is also to appear. It is not certain if there will be space and resources to market the ID.1 before 2026.
a segment
When Volkswagen comes up with the ID.1 soon, there will be at least one unique offer. As I said, only Dacia now has an offer in this segment with the Spring. Almost all other manufacturers have already left the A segment, although it is very likely that other manufacturers will return to the A segment soon. With the 500e, Fiat delivers a very compact city car, which, however, really operates in a different class due to its significantly higher entry price of over 30,000.
