You’ll never mispronounce Lamborghini again with this mnemonic

If Ferruccio Lamborghini, the founder of the famous supercar brand, heard how many Dutch people mispronounce Lamborghini, he would turn in his grave. High time for an Italian lesson.
The pronunciation of the word Lamborghini regularly goes wrong. The combination “gh” turns out to be difficult. The brand name is often pronounced as Lambordjini. A handy mnemonic is the word spaghetti. That’s not how you pronounce it ‘Spadjhello.
The correct pronunciation of Lamborghini
Try to pronounce the “gh” combination the same way you would pronounce the word “spaghetti.” To be safe, do it with an Italian accent. Then it sounds a lot more like the ‘g’ in the English word ‘Good’and therefore not like the ‘dg’ sound in the English word ‘Edge’.
Lamborghini isn’t the only brand name that sometimes goes wrong. The correct pronunciation of the sports car manufacturer Porsche seems to be particularly difficult for Americans. You actually say it in German ‘por shoe’and not Porsche. Fortunately, most Dutch people do this well.
Other mispronounced brand names
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that every German brand comes out of our throats flawlessly. Take Dr. Oetker. It’s a German brand and with our eastern neighbors the combination ‘oe’ is the same as an ö, i.e. with diaeresis. You pronounce it as Dr. Utker. The embarrassing thing is that it was regularly mispronounced, even offscreen in Dutch TV commercials.
Finally, we would like to check how you pronounce Bose. Say – like most Dutch people – ‘furious’, then you are wrong. The electronics brand was founded by the American Amar Bose almost sixty years ago. That’s how you pronounce your name the American way ‘booze’. From now on, never make a mistake again.
