Mini claims to build the first all-electric convertible

Few electric convertibles have appeared since the transition to electric driving began. Mini is now changing that with the new Cooper SE Cabrio.

Of course, we already know the original Tesla Roadster, which has already celebrated its fifteenth birthday. Part of the roof can also be removed from the Roadster, but of course the Tesla Roadster is not an old-fashioned convertible with a folding dust roof. The Roadster is – you wouldn’t expect it – a Roadster.

The first electric convertible

A convertible has a folding roof, as the English term reads convertible stated more clearly. The new Mini Cooper SE Cabrio also has this. The brand claims to be the first manufacturer with an electric convertible. The previously unveiled Polestar 6 also aims to keep the convertible alive, but this model isn’t in production yet.

Every fifth Mini sold today is electric. As a result, Mini also opted for a roofless version of its electric Cooper. In just eight months, this idea made its way from the drawing board to the Dutch production hall. Minis have been manufactured in Born in Limburg since 2014. The brand’s electric convertible is also assembled there.

The convertible version of the Cooper SE has a claimed range of 125 miles. The open roof probably does not benefit the CV value, because the range of the convertible is more than 12 percent less than that of the electric hatchback.

Limited edition of the Mini Cooper SE Convertible

You drive a very special car for that. It is a limited edition of only 999 pieces. This makes this Cooper convertible rarer than a Ferrari F40, of which more than 300 were produced. To make you feel like you’re driving something special, all the cars are numbered. In addition, the convertible is decorated with some bronze elements around the light units and the Cooper SE convertible stands on exclusive 17-inch wheels.

The electric convertible can be ordered in Europe from April this year. Nothing is known about the price yet.
