The Lamborghini Urus is already a plug-in hybrid

A Lamborghini Urus has been spotted, which is said to have a part-electric powertrain. It is the first time that the super SUV with an electric motor is filmed.

This is not entirely new. Back in 2019, Maurizio Reggiani, head of development at Lamborghini, announced that an Urus would also come onto the market as a plug-in hybrid.

The Lamborghini Urus is already a plug-in hybrid

A very quiet Lamborghini Urus that takes some getting used to. Although the Urus isn’t a typical enthusiast’s car and some purists don’t think an SUV suits Lamborghini. The Urus manages to impress the driver in terms of handling and driving experience.

Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen drove the Lamborghini Urus Performante a few months ago. This version has more power, is lighter and, according to the Italians, focuses more on the driving experience. “It’s like sitting on the roof of a supercar,” he says in the video below.

While a PHEV will add a bit more weight, the Urus reportedly keeps the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. The powertrain is said to be even more powerful thanks to the electric motor. The electric motor presumably used comes from Porsche and is called LK5. The performance of the Lamborghini Urus plug-in hybrid should be around 820 hp.

The video shows a black Lamborghini Urus driving away with no sound and no stickers. Only the suspected tailgate was pasted.

BMW XM competitor

Lamborghini has not yet confirmed any of the specs. It is also still unclear when the Urus will be launched as a plug-in hybrid. It seems almost clear that the Urus PHEV is coming. After all, they have to compete with the BMW XM, for example. The strongest Label Red version of the Bavarian giant will be released in autumn 2023. Will the Urus plug-in hybrid come before the Bavarian SUV?
