5 reasons why the hybrid Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e (g) is a good idea

Mercedes-Maybach is contagious for the first time. The particularly luxurious variant of the S-Class will be available with a hybrid drive.

Maybach is known as a brand for luxury and high-end cars. The manufacturer was founded in Germany in 1909 and was originally a brand for the production of exclusive limousines and other luxury vehicles. The symbols of wealth often have a fat twelve-cylinder – or fat V8 – on their nose. This is not the case with the new powertrain.

Five reasons why the hybrid Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e (g) is a good idea

The new Mercedes-Maybach S 580 has an in-line six-cylinder petrol engine which, together with the electric motor, delivers 510 hp. We give you five reasons why this is (not) a good idea.

1. The quietest Maybach ever

An advantage of the hybrid powertrain is that you can drive electrically. This Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e drives more quietly than any previous luxury car from the brand.

The question is whether the Maybach remains as quiet as the six-cylinder is in use when the battery is empty or the power is needed. For example with the sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour, which the luxury car can cover in 5.1 seconds.

2. Convenient

No V12 can match an electric motor when it comes to smooth driving. The electric kilometers are without switching moments and therefore super smooth.

3. “Cheap”

Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e should be significantly cheaper than the other models of the brand. That’s because you pay less BPM for a hybrid in the Netherlands because these cars emit less – on paper. You can still expect the price to be around 2 tons.

4. Limited range

The car contains a battery pack with a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh. With it, you can drive around 100 kilometers according to WLTP – or be driven. Although this is a perfectly reasonable distance, you can still use the petrol engine on a regular basis.

5. You (driver) have to plug in

The Maybach S 580 e is a plug-in hybrid. If you want to drive as much as possible electrically, you have to plug in. Although the car is also sold in the Netherlands, the Germans are mainly focused on the Chinese market. The hybrid Maybach will therefore initially be available in Asia.
