Mazda lifts the curtain on an all-new crossover SUV: the CX-90. The new model is the big brother of the well-known CX-60.
The CX-90 is not intended for the European market. In the Netherlands you can expect the CX-80 this year. The brand will present a total of four SUVs in 2023.
Mazda CX-90
The Mazda CX-90 is mainly aimed at the American market and is therefore a large SUV. Although the external dimensions are not yet known, the Japanese say that there is room for up to eight people inside.
The strongest so far
You know the powertrain from the CX-60, with which the SUV shares its platform and is basically rear-wheel drive. However, the XC-90 always has four-wheel drive. Under the hood is a 3.3-liter straight-six petrol engine, which together with a 48-volt mild hybrid system delivers 345 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This powertrain is the most powerful gasoline engine Mazda has ever built, more powerful than the six-cylinder CX-60. A plug-in hybrid with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a battery pack of 17.8 kWh is also available. Whichever powertrain you choose, the car always has an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Not only is the technology similar to what we know from the CX-60, the design is also similar. However, the rear of the CX-90 is much longer than Mazda’s other SUVs. This is of course necessary for the additional seats. The interior, on the other hand, is almost identical to what we know from the Japanese SUV.

Compared to its predecessor, the Mazda CX-9, the CX-90 is a big step forward. The SUV has also become significantly larger in terms of dimensions. The price of the new model is not yet known, and it is not really interesting for the Dutch either. Mazda is building the CX-80 for Europe this year, which is said to have seven seats.
