Ready for the Autobahn: Alpina B5 GT is the strongest ever

The most powerful Alpina of all time, this title is held by the brand new B5 GT. Alpina’s version of the BMW 5 Series is an adorable Autobahn blazer of a dying breed.

As a car enthusiast you know Alpina. Rather, it was a separate brand that built cars with the platform and body of a BMW. The brand has now been taken over by the Bavarian car manufacturer. But the cars that are now being built are still real Alpinas.

The most powerful Alpina ever

Alpina will remain its own brand at least until 2025. So the B5 GT is not a BMW with an Alpina label, it is a thoroughbred!

In fact, it’s the most powerful Alpina ever built. No electric drive, but a thick 4.4-liter V8 with 634 hp and 850 Nm of torque is in the nose of the 5. Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The most powerful Alpina of all time sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.4 seconds. At least if you buy the sedan. If you order the Touring, the B5 GT takes 0.2 seconds longer.

Perhaps even more impressive is the sprint from 0 to 200 kilometers per hour. The sedan does it in 11.3 seconds, the touring in 11.9 seconds. The acceleration is only exhausted at 330 kilometers per hour. The top speed of the Touring is 8 kilometers per hour lower.

To bring the weight of 2,155 kilograms (Touring) to a standstill at speeds over 300 kilometers per hour, the brand mounts large Brembo brake calipers with 15.5-inch discs at the front and 15.7-inch discs at the rear.

Alpina B5 GT has a decent design

Lots of power but subtle design, that’s how we know the German brand. This is also the case with the strongest Alpina of all time.

The exterior is characterized by the Alpina bumper lip, the exhaust system with four outlets and large 20-inch wheels.

The driver of a B5 is also reminded in the interior that he is driving something special. For example, the BMW logo on the steering wheel has been replaced by an Alpina logo, “B5 GT” is written on the shift paddles and special Alcantara seats have been installed. On the center console you will find a plaque that shows how unique the B5 GT is.

The strongest Alpina comes at a high price

Only 250 examples of the car will be built. The first cars are scheduled for delivery in July 2023. The price in Germany is 145,500 euros for the sedan and 148,500 for the touring. The price in the Netherlands is much higher due to a higher VAT rate and BPM.
