This hatchback will also soon become an SUV…

Citroën announced last week that the SUV is now a bit done. Today, however, a European brand casually announces a new SUV. And this is not just any brand, but a member of the Fiat Group!
And then it’s not about the next generation of an SUV, but about a model that is still offered as a normal hatchback. Fiat is busy bringing a successor to the current Tipo onto the market. That will happen in 2025, but it will be a very different car than what we know now.
Inexpensive, spacious and smart
All of this emerges from the words of Olivier François, the great boss of Fiat. According to him, his brand has two missions: to provide urban mobility and affordable transportation for families. Then it’s about a car that has to be spacious, cheap and smart.
“We are talking about the C segment and you will see this car in 2025,” Francois is quoted as saying AutoExpress. “We have to replace the Tipo. It will be a car that transcends the traditional segments, as everyone is doing now. So it will be SUV-like, but in an innovative way,” says François.
408 and C4X
The new Fiat Tipo fits perfectly into the Stellantis image. Because brands like Peugeot and Citroën have also recently presented a model in this segment that has SUV-like elements, but also contains elements of a sedan and a coupe. Think of cars like the Peugeot 408 and the Citroën C4 X. So the Tipo seems to be the brother of these cars.

That would mean that the Fiat appears with the same powertrains. Think petrol and diesel engines, as well as plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions. The latter would be interesting for the Netherlands. Stellantis now delivers these models with a 54 kWh battery and a range of more than 400 kilometers.
One tip
There is also big news for the Tipo in the number of body styles that the new variant will be available in. The model is sold worldwide and is now available in hatchback, station wagon and sedan versions. The new Tipo will replace all three body styles as SUV-like. Fiat will offer one and the same model worldwide. This is necessary to make the company profitable again, says François.
This year there are other big Fiat news on the program. We’ll also reportedly see the production version of the brand’s new B-Segmenter in 2023. It may bear the name Punto.
