Off-road with the whole family in the Suzuki Jimny: That’s possible now

The Suzuki Jimny is without a doubt one of the most beautiful off-roaders of the time, but you can’t enjoy it with very many people. Reason: it is rather small. But this week there was good news, because there will be a five-door version!

This five-door version has been in the barrel for a while and last year we could already tell you it was coming. Suzuki has now completed all testing work and this week proudly displayed the all-new 5-door Jimny.

Greater

What is different? Of course: adding two rear doors. But that’s not the only thing, because this new variant is actually significantly larger.

The standard Jimny is 3.65 (or 3.55) meters long, 1.72 meters high and 1.65 meters wide. Suzuki doesn’t change the height and width of the car, but this five-door version is considerably longer. The length is namely 3.99 meters and is therefore more than 35 centimeters longer than its three-door brother.

Additional window

Of course, this should ensure that the occupants in the second row of seats have significantly more space than is currently the case. The increased wheelbase also contributes to this. The three-door Jimny is 2.25 meters between the axles, this “mini G class” has a wheelbase of 2.59 meters. Due to the significantly increased length, Suzuki is also adding an additional rear window to the Jimny.

That was the good news. Now the bad. Because have you seen yourself and your family sitting in a five-door Jimny? Then you’re out of luck. This five-door variant rolls off the assembly line in India and is sold in the local market as well as in the rest of Asia, South America and Africa. Europe is not on the list.

Suzuki Jimny in the Netherlands

This was not entirely unexpected, especially not in the Netherlands. The current Jimny has only sniffed out the Dutch market for a short time anyway. The regular version disappeared from the price list for a while and the importer only offers a Professional which is intended for the business market and therefore only has two seats. The problem with this version: Due to its dimensions, it does not meet the requirements for a gray license plate.
