Your windshield as a big screen: That’s the BMW i Vision Dee
BMW lifts the curtain on a new concept model: the i Vision Dee. The study model is a step in that direction new class. This German term was also long ago used for the platform on which cars like the 1800 were built from 1962 to 1972.
This concept car obviously has nothing to do with these models. After all, Dee stands for Digital Emotional Experience. The car leaves the analogue past behind.
No screens, just a huge head-up display
While the car’s design is striking, the interior trim and digital features are the most important to discuss. With the i Vision Dee, BMW says goodbye to all screens in the car. The head-up display extends across the entire windshield. You can choose what is projected onto your window.

And that goes far. From just your speed and navigation instructions to driving somewhere you’re not. As a driver, you can drive through a virtual world that is projected onto your screen. For example, you can choose to supposedly drive through Los Angeles while physically driving the streets of Zoetermeer. What’s the point? No idea. It’s a gimmick for now.
From 2025, BMW will already be using the head-up display, which stretches across the entire width of your windscreen new class.

The side windows are also fully digital. With the concept car, you can project your own avatar onto it. Another gimmick, because in reality this is of course not allowed. How are the police supposed to see that you’re wearing your seat belt?
BMW i Vision Dee is very personal
The exterior of the BMW i Vision Dee is also special. The design is somewhat reminiscent of a futuristic version of the Lancia Delta. However, Dee’s sound does not come from a shrill four-cylinder, but from the loudspeakers.
Because Dee talks to you like you’re a friend. BMW believes that a kind of extensive Siri can create a bond between the driver and the car. A bit like Nio with Nome. I prefer to bond with the Lancia Delta HF Integrale.

Enough of personal preferences, although the BMW i Vision Dee aims to do just that. After all, you can choose which world you ride in. You also choose how Dee, the Siri kind, speaks to you.
The grille moves in a special way, which allows the car to take on different facial expressions. In fact, Dee is personal enough to compliment you on your shoes.
Determine the pattern of the BMW i Vision Dee radiator grille yourself
Typical concept vehicleplay, although BMW is showing something special. With e-ink technology, the car can change its facial expression. This can discolour certain surfaces within a few seconds. The grille and taillight units don’t function as a screen, more like an e-reader.
Holding the color doesn’t cost any energy, just changing the color. With Dee, this is limited to black and white, but BMW can already color entire surfaces of a car (up to 32 colors) without the need for LED technology.

Drive in a virtual world while actually driving, no more screens, a car trying to be your friend and features that allow you to change the color and pattern of the car or its parts. The BMW i Vision Dee shows what the Bavarian brand is up to, a glimpse into the future!
