Max Verstappen has been named Driver of the Year for the second time in a row. In a poll by Autosport, the Dutch world champion in Formula 1 received the most votes. Charles Leclerc, also from Formula 1, was second. IndyCar champion Will Power was third, with Formula E champion Stoffel Vandoorne fourth.
“A big thank you to the fans who voted me International Driver of the Year for the second time in a row,” said Verstappen in a video message during the Autosport Gala in London. “We had an incredible season, even if the start was difficult. We managed to turn that around very quickly and I have the team to thank for that,” said the Red Bull leader, who won no fewer than fifteen Grands Prix this year, a record in Formula 1.
Driver of the Year again Max Verstappen
Drivers of all racing classes have the chance to win the Autosport prize. Verstappen was voted best driver for the first time last year. At that time he was just ahead of Lewis Hamilton, just like in the fight for the world title in Formula 1.
Also a prize for Sebastian Vettel
For all his achievements in Formula 1, Sebastian Vettel received an Oeuvre Award in London. The 35-year-old German, four-time world champion, recently retired. Vettel collected his award himself.

Max Verstappen competitor George Russell also received a prize in London. The Mercedes driver’s victory at the Brazilian GP was declared the “Moment of the Year”. The Briton clinched his maiden Formula 1 win in São Paulo. In the election, that moment came before Verstappen’s record win in Mexico and Nyck de Vries’ sensational debut at the Italian Grand Prix.
The Friesian finished ninth in Monza as a substitute driver for Williams and scored the same championship points. For the coming season, De Vries has been given a permanent place in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri.
