Why the design of the Volkswagen ID.3 facelift is wrong

Volkswagen shows a sketch of the new VW ID.3. The car will be presented next spring. With these illustrations, the brand gives a taste, but should we be there…
The Volkswagen ID.3 is a popular electric car, and rightly so. The EV offers a lot value for money, looks good and has good driving characteristics. However, there are also things that the VW is less good at.
Volkswagen ID.3 Facelift
For example, there have long been complaints about the infotainment of the Volkswagen ID.3. It’s not just about the sometimes worryingly long start-up time or the poor range forecast. No, it’s the knobs you use to operate the infotainment that get the criticism it deserves. The quality of the inner material is also disappointing.

Ex-CEO Thomas Schäfer also took notice and said: “We listened to the ID.3 community.” For this reason, the facelift of the Volkswagen ID.3 2023 was pushed ahead. “The new Volkswagen ID.3 will make great progress in terms of quality, materials and software stability. It is a car that corresponds to what we stand for at Volkswagen,” said Schäfer this year.

Apparently, Volkswagen has not listened to criticism from customers and the press. The new design sketches do not show any physical buttons on the steering wheel, but the touchpads again. However, the new Volkswagen ID.3 is equipped with a new software generation that also allows over-the-air updates. Would Volkswagen have improved the touch-sensitive buttons with new software so that it now works properly, or are these still old sketches?
Interior made of different material
Although the controls on the steering wheel don’t seem to have changed, the use of materials in the interior has changed. The materials are of better quality and completely cruelty-free. The standard equipment includes a 12-inch display, a removable luggage floor and a center console with two cup holders.
Exterior Volkswagen ID.3 almost identical to pre-facelift
In addition to the interior, the exterior will also be modified. A small change, because with a new front apron with large air openings, the difference only becomes really clear from the front.

VW builds the ID.3 facelift just like the current model in Zwickau and Dresden. Wolfsburg will soon be added as a production site. Prices of the updated model are still unknown.
