Volvo comes with the electric successor XC90: EX90

Volvo lifts the curtain on the all-new EX90. The SUV is the electric successor to the XC90.

The Volvo is on the same platform as the Polestar 3, which was launched three weeks ago. However, the two models are very different from each other.

First of all, the design of the Volvo EX90 differs significantly from the Polestar. You see the T-shape in the headlights on both models, but the Volvo has separated the daytime running lights from the top headlight assembly.

In addition, the nose is narrower by hiding the camera in the logo and eliminating the air vent in the nose and hood. Speaking of those cameras. Volvo installs a lidar sensor on the roof in preparation for autonomous driving. The lidar is not optional, it is standard. At least for the production model.

Even more standard with the Volvo EX90 are the seven seats on board. You see, the roof style is actually identical to the XC90. If you look at the back you will see some changes compared to this model. For example, light units were placed towards the rear window.

minimalistic

The interior is almost identical to that of the Polestar. Very minimalist design with a large central display, few physical buttons and a screen behind the wheel.

Volvo EX90 initially only with 111 kWh battery pack

With the right foot, 408 hp and 770 Nm are available in the basic version. If you opt for the performance model, the EX90 delivers 517 hp and 910 Nm. The fastest model sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds. The basic version lasts 1 bar longer. The maximum speed is always limited to 180 kilometers per hour.

Whichever version you choose, the Volvo EX90 always has a 111 kWh battery pack on board, of which 107 kWh can be used. According to WLTP, the least powerful version has a range of around 600 kilometers. The 517 hp variant is 10 kilometers less far. Although it is less streamlined and at around 2800 kilograms around 200 kilograms heavier than the Polestar, this competitor is only 10 kilometers further. All versions can fast charge up to 250 kW. That means you can charge from 0 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The price of the Volvo EX90 will be announced today. Production will start at the end of 2023.
