Speeding, everyone knows it’s not allowed. Nevertheless, there are many drivers who drive a little too fast. A driver in Australia was not speeding. He was arrested for exceeding 170 kilometers per hour.
A maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour is permitted on the road. The 22-year-old driver drove 280 kilometers per hour. The speeder has to appear in court on December 20th.
170 km/h too fast
The car that the police stopped is a Volkswagen Golf R. In any case, that’s no longer standard. The fastest Golf R reaches a top speed of 250 km/h ex works – optionally 270 km/h. Perhaps the owner tampered with some software that controls the 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

The Volkswagen Golf R has 330 hp as standard – and even 333 hp in the 20 Years special edition. The torque is 420 Nm and the model sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in well under 5 seconds.
In order to get the power onto the road, a Volkswagen Golf R has a Galdex system with a central clutch that can send half the engine power to the rear axle. The differential has two clutches that distribute power between the two rear wheels. This allows you to push the VW through the curve just like a Ford Focus RS or Mercedes-AMG A45 on the accelerator, as if it were a rear-wheel drive vehicle.

While that may not help when driving straight ahead at more than 270 kilometers per hour, Dries van den Elzen shows how it helps the car through the curve on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The Golf is available in the Netherlands from 73,590 euros.
