Oh no! The Netherlands again lose their own car brand: Burton

Strictly speaking, we are not losing any car brands, they simply pass into the wrong hands. Burton Car Company, founded in 1993 by brothers Iwan and Dimitri Göbel, was bought by the French 2CV Mehari Club Cassis.

If you don’t know what Burton is: the company from Zutphen sells the sports car of the same name, a classic two-seater based on Citroën 2CV technology. Since the model’s launch in 2001, more than 1,400 units have been sold, both as kits and complete cars.

The Burton car brand also sells Duck parts

Burton is not only active as a car manufacturer, but also sells new parts for the 2CV (the range now includes around four thousand items). In this function, the company is active in more than one hundred countries worldwide. Burton employs 40 people.

New French owner 2CV Mehari Club Cassis

The new owner of Burton is the French 2CV Mehari Club Cassis, who started the restoration and personalization of Citroën Mehari in 1982. Sixteen years later, the company acquired original Citroën molds and tooling to continue manufacturing and supplying Mehari parts. At the beginning of 2000, Citroën also transferred the forms for the 2CV to the 2CV Mehari Club Cassis.

In 2017, the brand introduced the Mehari EDEN, an all-electric version of the Mehari. Since last year, 2CV Mehari Club Cassis has also been selling electrical conversion kits for the duck. The merger with Burton now creates a company with more than a hundred employees.
