This is the actual range of the Smart #3

Electric cars usually consume more than the manufacturers state. The result is less good range than you might expect. This time we are testing the driving range of the Smart #3.

The difference between the stated WLTP range and the actual range is large for some vehicles. For this reason, Autovisie tests the actual average range in practice with the air conditioning and radio on. This gives you a better idea of how far you can actually get with an electric vehicle.

Smart #3

The Smart #3 that Autovisie drives is equipped with a 66 kWh battery, of which 62 kWh is usable. A 272 hp electric motor is connected to the battery and drives the rear wheels.

The actual range

According to the WLTP measurement method, the Smart #3 has a range of 455 kilometers. With good anticipation, we achieved a value of 19 kWh per 100 kilometers on our fixed consumption route at 10 degrees Celsius and a strong southwesterly wind. That means it stops after 326 kilometers.

Better weather conditions can mean fifty kilometers more for the Smart #3.

WLTP consumption average 16.3 kWh/100 km
Measured consumption 19.0 kWh/100 km
Range WLTP/measured 455km/326km
Max. measured charging speed 158kW
Charging time 10-80%/measured 30 mins/28 mins

When the battery is discharged, the following image appears on the quick charger. The Smart started at 10 percent remaining capacity above 150 kW and gradually reduced towards 40 percent to 128 kW, 100 kW at 50 percent and 67 kW at 70 kW and 61 kW at 80 percent. In the end, it took him 28 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.

Test area

Autovisie independently tests consumption in the Netherlands as part of the Autovisie double test. Please note that consumption may vary as it depends on your driving style, but also on weather conditions and many other factors.
