The new Porsche Panamera is… a lowrider?
Overall, the third-generation Porsche Panamera doesn’t seem to differ much from its predecessor. However, a revolution has taken place underneath. What similarities does it have with a lowrider?
You know them, those classic American sleds whose chassis has been modified with hydraulic pumps to adjust ride height. Preferably as low as possible, which is why they are also called “lowriders”. But jumping or driving on three wheels is also possible, which is why this example of typical Latin American culture is a welcome guest in hip-hop video clips. Porsche thought that would be something too…
New Porsche Panamera with lowrider functions
The new Porsche Panamera presents a new generation of chassis technology that has been in the works for more than seven years. Although the purpose of this revolutionary “Active Ride” chassis with – you guessed it – hydraulic pumps to control ride height is much different than just attracting attention, the operating principle behind it is not much different than that of a lowrider. An almost 10 hp oil pump is mounted on each of the four shock absorbers, with which both the body and the wheels can be pushed in the desired direction.
This enables more or less uncompromising comfort and exceptionally dynamic driving behavior. It costs 8,539 euros extra, but then you get something.

The chassis is the highlight of the third generation Porsche Panamera, essentially picking up where the second generation left off. Still an oversized sports sedan (or hatchback, really), with a 353 horsepower V6 or one of the many plug-in hybrid powertrains. With the currently most powerful Turbo E-Hybrid (the Turbo S will follow later…), which sends 680 hp and 930 Nm to the four wheels, we made a video in which all the new features are discussed in detail. The new generation of plug-in hybrid technology in the Porsche Panamera ensures a maximum of 91 kilometers of electric range, while you still have 190 hp at your disposal.
Price Porsche Panamera
An additional advantage is a low BPM, which means the Turbo costs “only” 200,900 euros. But the entry-level model with V6 and plug-in technology is available from 130,000 euros. The only major downside? The Sport Turismo station wagon that we Dutch loved so much was unfortunately scrapped…
Porsche
Panamera
score
Positive
- Particularly good road holding
- Still with a big V8
- Even the V6 without Active Ride drives perfectly
Negatives
- Interior with many screens and few buttons
- No more Sport Turismo
- The luggage compartment could be larger
With the optional Active Ride suspension, the new Porsche Panamera is perhaps the car with the greatest spread between comfort and dynamics.
