Why this Pininfarina Enigma GT is incomprehensible

This Pininfarina is incomprehensible. We don’t say that, that’s what the manufacturer suggests. By giving the futuristic study model the name Pininfarina Enigma GT.

A mystery is something that is difficult to understand or explain. And maybe this expression actually fits this concept car. It has a remarkable powertrain.

Pininfarina Enigma GT

The all-wheel drive Pininfarina Enigma GT has an electric motor on the front axle and an internal combustion engine between the cabin and rear axle. There’s something special going on with the latter.

It doesn’t swallow petrol, diesel or liquid gas, but rather hydrogen. By the way, that’s all that is known about the Enigma, because Pininfarina is not generous with concrete information.

No fuel cell

There are two ways to use hydrogen in cars. You can burn it, as is the case with the Enigma engine, or you can use it to generate electricity in a fuel cell, as is the case with the Toyota Mirai.

Ferrari 512S Modulo

The Enigma’s appearance is inspired by the Abarth 2000 Coupé Pininfarina, the Ferrari 512S Berlinetta Speciale, the Ferrari 512S Modulo and the Maserati Birdcage 75th.

Space for four people

A typical case of study model madness is the method of boarding. The windshield forms a unit with the doors and can be folded forward and upward. There appears to be room for four people.

What does Pininfarina plan to do with the Enigma? No idea. The wonderful sports car seems to be primarily a design exercise, as there are no production plans anyway.

Automobili Pininfarina

By the way, Pininfarina builds cars under the name Automobili Pininfarina, such as the all-electric Battista, which we made a video about four years ago, and the completely open B95.
