This BYD Dolphin Mini is an electric car for 18,700 euros

With a price of 29,990 euros, the BYD Dolphin is one of the cheapest electric cars in our country. However, did you know that the Chinese manufacturer also offers a smaller version of the electric vehicle that costs even less?

This model is very aptly called the BYD Dolphin Mini, although in China the electric car is known as the Seagull. You can buy the electric car there for less than 10,000 euros. This did not go unnoticed: in 2023, no fewer than 280,000 Chinese people bought a seagull. The brand now markets the Seagull internationally as the Dolphin Mini.

First up is South America, where the mini EV is now available in several countries. The electric car is also expected to be available in Brazil later this month, where the BYD Dolphin Mini is reportedly available from 99,800 Brazilian reals. This corresponds to around 18,700 euros.

What do you get as a Brazilian for this price? An electric vehicle with a 30 kWh battery at the bottom, allowing a range of 300 kilometers. Please note that this is the outdated NEDC measurement method. You can also optionally get the BYD Dolphin Mini with a 38 kWh battery, which is said to last 400 kilometers.

Is the electric car coming to the Netherlands?

However, you will not reach this area. Not only because the practical consumption is often disappointing, but also because you won’t see the dirt-cheap electric car in Europe for a while. The Chinese apparently do not yet have any concrete plans to bring the BYD Dolphin Mini to Europe. The question is also whether the small electric vehicle will even meet our stricter (safety) requirements.
