Tesla competitor gives first glimpse of new and affordable electric vehicle

You may already know the Rivian R1T as a Tesla Cybertruck competitor, as it is also an electric vehicle in pickup truck form. A new electric car from the brand is now in the starting blocks, which should be significantly more affordable.

After years of waiting, cybertrucks are now on the road in droves. Electric vehicle enthusiasts are in an uproar. Some consider it a rust bucket, others are full of praise for the electric workhorse. However, the Tesla Cybertruck is a little late to the electric pickup party. After all, the Rivian R1T has been around for several years. The Tesla competitor will even launch a new (and affordable) electric car next month.

Rivian R2 as a new entry-level electric vehicle

Rivian currently has two passenger cars in its range: the R1T and the R1S, the latter being an SUV version of the R1T. The R1T is currently the cheapest model with a base price of 69,900 US dollars (almost 65,000 euros).

But that will soon change. On March 7, the American automaker will unveil a brand new electric vehicle model: the Rivian R2. You can get a first look at the smaller SUV in the video above. The light signature in particular is clearly visible and is strongly reminiscent of the lighting units of its larger brothers.

Electric car price

It is clear that the Tesla competitor is once again underlining its adventurous brand character with the Rivian R2. The difference is that exploring the wilderness with an electric vehicle is now possible for Americans on a budget. CEO Robert Scaringe previously reported that the smaller R2 will be cheaper. According to estimates, the starting price of the Rivian R2 will be between 40,000 and 50,000 dollars (37,000 to 46,000 euros).

Competitor of the Tesla Model Y

Here too, the electric car could be an interesting purchase. For this amount, EV funding can be obtained, just like the Tesla Model Y, its likely competitor. Scaringe had previously announced that he was making preparations for his arrival in Europe. These are models based on the new R2 platform. Maybe this Rivian R2 will soon brighten up the Dutch road network.
