With the 5 Series Touring (i5), BMW is saying goodbye to a unique selling point.

Before BMW officially presented the i5 Touring, you could already read all the prices and specifications on Autovisie.nl. We were the first in the world to find all the details at a Dutch BMW dealer. They accidentally already had everything online. Now we can really introduce you to the new BMW 5 Series.

Not the marketing launch you were dreaming of, although the Touring remains big news. After all, there are few electric business stations.

BMW i5 Touring

The most important thing that the Touring offers compared to the regular BMW i5 is of course the space. You can store 570 liters of luggage in the back of the trunk, or 1,700 liters with the folding bench seats. This is exactly the same as the previous Touring. At least if you don’t have a hybrid. There was less luggage space.

Powertrains BMW i5 Touring

No matter which electric variant you choose. You always receive a battery pack with a net capacity of 81.2 kWh. With the BMW i5 Touring eDrive40 you can drive up to 548 kilometers* according to WLTP. With a full battery charge, the M60 can travel up to 498 kilometers*. The battery can be charged at the public charging station with 11 kW, optionally with 22 kW (standard on the fastest variant). Fast charging is possible with 205 kW.

*BMW has revised the range information above. The i5 Touring M60 now covers 505 kilometers. The 40 can travel 560 kilometers on a single battery charge.

The 40 has an electric motor that is good for 340 hp and 400 Nm of torque, including 430 Nm in boost. The M60 is an xDrive, so it has two electric motors that together produce 601 hp and 795 Nm, including 820 Nm in boost. The top speed of this model is 230 kilometers per hour and the sprint from 0 to 100 takes 3.9 seconds. So it is a real power plant. However, the BMW won’t really be sporty due to its weight.

For now only diesel

There are currently two diesel versions on the price list of the BMW 5 Series Touring. These are a 520D with rear-wheel drive and one with all-wheel drive. They have a four-cylinder with 197 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The 520d can be ordered from 76,001 euros and the xDrive from 81,667 euros. Mild and plug-in hybrid petrol drives as well as six-cylinder diesel engines will follow later.

The BMW i5 Touring is available from 79,622 euros. You can order the M60 from 110,477 euros. The diesel and i5 will be launched in May this year.
