Volkswagen Golf 8 Facelift: The very last one?

Volkswagen Golf 8 Facelift: The very last one?

Volkswagen is pulling the plug on the brand’s best-selling model. The CEO had previously announced that the Golf name would continue to exist, but that no new gasoline engine would be developed for the Volkswagen.

With the current generation, the Golf 8, the brand wants to reach the end of this decade. So it’s time for a facelift.

In terms of design, you will notice some minor changes. For example, the bumper has been slightly revised, the taillights have a different signature and there is a slightly different diffuser.

With the facelift of the Volkswagen Golf 8, four colors are added to the price list: black metallic, blue metallic, ice blue metallic and oyster silver metallic.

There were also some changes in the interior. The eye-catcher is a 12.9-inch screen, which is optionally 15 inches in size. You may know this screen from the Volkswagen ID.7, for example.

The steering wheel of the new Volkswagen Golf is equipped with physical buttons. At the bottom you still have the infotainment screen Touch slider. The infotainment optionally supports ChatGPT.

Powertrains

There are two plug-in versions to choose from, one with 204 hp and one with 272 hp. The most powerful is the GTE. Both have a 1.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor. The electric motor always draws its energy from a 25.7 kWh battery, with which you can drive more than 100 kilometers. You can charge with a home charger with 11 kW, but also with a quick charger with 50 kW.

Only the hatchback can be ordered as a plug-in hybrid. The Volkswagen Golf Station has a 1.5 TSI mild hybrid drive with 150 hp or a non-mild hybrid with 115 hp. This drivetrain replaces the 1.0 TSI, which is no longer available to order with immediate effect.

A manual transmission is still available for the Golf with the non-mild hybrid 1.5. Diesel driving is no longer possible in the Netherlands.

Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI

The Volkswagen Golf GTI now has 20 hp more and therefore produces 265 hp. The 2.0 TSI is still paired with a DSG, Volkswagen’s automatic transmission. Volkswagen has already shown images of a sportier GTI. It is still unclear whether this is a Clubsport, TCR or other model. At least enthusiasts can treat themselves to a sporty version of the hatchback model.
