Peeing on German autobahns is becoming more expensive (but actually cheaper)

Do you have to go to the toilet? Then you have two options along the highway: either you dive into the bushes, or you pay to use a Sanifair toilet at one rest stop. Because nowadays everything is getting more expensive, including peeing. Sanifair raises prices, but not actually.
You used to pay 50 cents for a Sanifair toilet along the Autobahn and get a 50 cent voucher back. A trip to the toilet has cost 70 cents since 2011, but coffee or something similar is still 50 cents.
Toilet price increased along the German autobahn
From November 18, the “admission price” for the toilets along the German autobahn will rise to 1 euro. But actually the use is only free of charge, because you also get a voucher for 1 euro.
Voucher to be used for three calendar years
It pays to keep it. Assuming you pull a receipt now, you can use the 1 euro not only for something to drink or eat in 2022, but also in three calendar years after that: 2023, 2024 and 2025.x
Paying for public toilets in Europe
Americans in particular often complain that they have to pay for a public toilet in Europe, but at least in Germany this has brought great improvements. In the 1980s, the restrooms along the Autobahn were free… and pretty dirty.
