The best-selling car in the Netherlands in 2023 was the Tesla Model Y. After all, the electric car offers a good range, plenty of space and excellent charging options for the money. Can this new BYD Sea Lion 07 dethrone the Elon Musk brand?
The BYD was introduced some time ago. However, thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we now know many of the electric car’s specifications.
BYD’s competitor for the Tesla Model Y
Tesla’s competitor Model Y looks very similar to the Seal. Finally, the BYD Sea Lion 07 is part of the brand’s same Ocean line, although you could probably tell that from the name.

With a length of 4.83 meters, a height of 1.925 meters and a width of 1.62 meters, the external dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Tesla Model Y.
Nothing can yet be found in the ministry documents about the range of the BYD Sea Lion 07. We see the engines. There are two versions with an electric motor. One with 232 hp and one with 313 hp. These versions have a top speed of 210 or 225 kilometers per hour.

In addition to these two variants, there will also be an all-wheel drive with 531 hp. This version reaches a top speed of 225 kilometers per hour. 313 HP and 531 HP are performance figures that we know from the BYD seal. It is obvious that both cars will have the same powertrain.
And what about the Seal U?
It is still unclear whether the BYD Sea Lion 07 will also come to the Netherlands. Although it seems to be an attractive model for our country.
BYD is currently busy launching another SUV here: the Seal U. Although the name is clearly derived from the sedan, the name doesn’t actually fit the model. You can see how this works in the video below.
