Forgotten car keys? It can happen to the best of people. Continental, a manufacturer of tires among other things, has a super-simple technological solution that ensures you never need the key to your car again: facial recognition.
Of course, reliable facial recognition is not easy. However, if it has been in phones for years. Why doesn’t this work with cars too?
face recognition
Of course, the system has to work 100 percent because you don’t want someone else to take your car.

Facial recognition can be used when opening and starting a car, so you don’t need a car key. You can also pay for the charger for your electric car using facial recognition in the infotainment.
The camera in the interior is integrated into the infotainment screen. The camera can see through the display. This means that the design of a car’s interior does not have to be adjusted, says Continental.
No car key
Even if facial recognition still feels unsafe in a car, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a less secure option than a car key. Finally, a physical key can be stolen, lost or copied.
There are already enough cars on the road with alternatives to the key. For example, you can open the Ford Explorer with a code and a Tesla only requires your phone to open and start.
Only time will tell whether facial recognition technology will ultimately be used. Would you like to stay up to date with all the latest news on technological developments in the automotive industry? Then subscribe to the free Autovisie newsletter.
