The Model S and Model X no longer appear in Tesla’s annual figures

Tesla produced and delivered a record number of cars last year. Which cars are these? Of course the Model 3 and Y, and then Tesla talks about “other models”.

We understand that there is no mention of the Cybertruck. A maximum of ten of them will be built in 2023. The fact that Tesla doesn’t mention the Model S and X by name makes less sense in our opinion.

Model S and X irrelevant?

Although perhaps it says something about the irrelevance of both models for Tesla. Because they only make up 3.8 percent of annual production.

In 2023, Tesla built 1,775,159 Model 3 and Model Y. The Model S and Model X are only 70,826. This brings total production to a record number of 1,845,945.

Largest manufacturer of electric vehicles

Does this make Tesla the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world? Yes, but his chair legs are sawed in half. Because in the fourth quarter of 2023, the Chinese BYD was larger for the first time.

Tesla sold 494,989 cars in October, November and December. BYD was over 525,000 during the same period. Looking at the year as a whole, BYD is still “smaller” with 1.6 million electric cars.

When new Tesla?

The fact that Tesla is now so dependent on the Model 3 and Model Y also poses a risk, especially now that the rest of the automotive world is rapidly introducing one electric vehicle after another.

The Model S is basically twelve years old, the Model X nine years old. Maybe Elon Musk will produce a new (compact?) model in 2023, but whether it will come to market quickly is always the question at Tesla.
