This is the actual range of the Tesla Model Y

Electric cars usually consume more than the manufacturers state. The result is less good range than you might expect. This time we are testing the range of the Tesla Model Y.

The difference between the stated WLTP range and the actual range is large for some vehicles. For this reason, Autovisie tests the actual average range in practice with the air conditioning and radio on. This gives you a better idea of how far you can actually get with an electric vehicle.

The cheapest Tesla Model Y

Autovisie drove the cheapest Tesla Model Y. The electric car has an electric motor on the rear axle that is good for 299 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The LFP battery has a battery capacity of 60 kWh. According to the WLTP measurement method, you can drive 455 kilometers with a full battery charge.

The actual range

With outside temperatures around freezing point, sporty Hankook Ventus Evo tires and 19-inch wheels, the Tesla Model Y had a practical range of 338 kilometers, which is an excellent achievement given the relatively low usable battery capacity of around 58 kWh.

Tesla Model Y, range

Under these conditions, a consumption of 17 kWh per hundred kilometers is and remains unique for such a large car. With its infotainment system, the Y informs you down to the kilometer about the remaining range, the consumption of each watt-hour of energy and the driving speed required to arrive completely empty at the next fast charger.

Charging the Tesla Model Y

On the fast charger, the properly preheated Tesla immediately absorbs the promised 170 kW, then gradually reduces the power to 100 kW at half and 55 kW at 80 percent. This allows you to charge to 70 percent capacity in 25 minutes.

The consumption round

Autovisie independently tests consumption in the Netherlands as part of the Autovisie double test. Please note that consumption may vary as it depends on your driving style, but also on weather conditions and many other factors.
