Half of this brand’s dealers refuse to sell electric cars

The American brand Buick has suddenly lost half of all dealers in the USA. The companies were bought because they don’t want to sell electric vehicles.

Buick wants to sell only new electric cars by 2030 and has already required its dealers to invest $300,000 in everything needed to sell and service electric vehicles.

Half Buick dealers

However, half of the two thousand Buick dealers in the US refused to invest money in employee training, charging stations and other electric mobility topics. So they used a buyout program.

“We have given dealers who do not want to commit to Buick’s future a respectful and structured opportunity to voluntarily exit,” the manufacturer said in a statement.

Sales increased

The General Motors brand reports that sales are up 60 percent this year despite the disappearance of 47 percent of its dealers. By the way, these dealers are now still allowed to sell Chevrolet and GMC.

Open letter to Biden

In the USA, car manufacturers are not interested in switching (partially) to electric vehicles. A group of around three thousand retailers therefore sent an open letter to President Joe Biden.

Sellers are calling on him to relax his binding targets for the electric vehicle market because demand for electric vehicles is now out of step with supply.

Little demand, lots of inventory

Buying a car in the USA is different than it is here. Most Americans purchase one from inventory, which is why dealers typically have plenty available. Too much, they now say about electric vehicles.
